Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQS

Does Mission Trips Uganda have an orphanage in Uganda?

With the assistance of local architects and planners, a new self-sustaining Children’s village is underway. Mission Trips Uganda was able to purchase 10 acres of ideal land for the Dream Village in Kyegegwa-Kyaka about 191.5 km west of Kampala capital city. The Children’s Village will be arranged in a family styled homes that will accommodate 8 children and a mother/caretaker. These transitional homes will be all self-contained with a lounge, bedrooms for privacy, and a central courtyard, a kitchen, laundry, and bath facilities and courtyard etc. There will also be hand-drilled wells and a sand filtration system set up for a source of potable water.

When does my commitment end?

Mission Trips Uganda offers a “pooled” sponsorship approach rather than a one-to-one model. The Sponsorship Program is set up so that all gifts given are pooled together and distributed to over 100 children who have varying medical and tuition costs.

Who/what is a spotlighted child?

A spotlighted child is a child in the Mission Trips Uganda Sponsorship Program whom our team in Uganda has chosen to introduce to you. These children range in age and have unique stories to share. Our hope is that our friends around the world will connect with our Ugandan friends more deeply as you learn about their daily lives. Allowing our in-country team to select these spotlighted stories empowers them to be a part of Mission Trips Uganda globally as they share with you the children that have touched their hearts. So, not only are you connecting with these spotlighted children, but also with the hearts of our staff.

Is the child I received a photo and bio of “my” child?

Everyone who partners with our sponsorship program during the same month will receive information on the same spotlighted child. After this, a new child spotlight video will be sent out via email. These children are representative of the more than 100 children your partnership benefits!

Can I write a letter to a child in the sponsorship program?

What happens if you get enough partners to cover the expenses for over 100 children in your program? Is your program cap 100 children or will you be adding more?

The cost of schooling in Uganda increases exponentially as students continue further down their educational path. Costs from primary to secondary can be as much as triple at some of the schools our children attend. Post-secondary only sees a greater increase. As an organization, we commit to supporting our students through university or vocational school, if they should choose that path. Therefore, a portion of each dollar is saved to cover the increased expense, as the children in our program get older and further in their schooling.

We do not have a cap on our program. We are excited about the potential this new program has to make the logistical process of adding children much more manageable both in Uganda and Stateside. We will consistently be in prayer and will be obedient to the direction that God provides about the growth of the scholarship program.
