What a Mission Trip to Uganda entails

Volunteers will have the opportunity to do a variety of programs during their stay with Mission Trips Uganda.
Projects range from, door to door outreach, evangelism school visits, community involvement, and even construction projects

Uganda is located in the Eastern part of Africa and is the 3rd largest among the 5 East African countries: Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. The country has a history of suffering which can be attributed to the endless wars and AIDS that have led to rampant poverty throughout the country.

For a country the size of Oregon, Uganda is surprisingly diverse. Looking in any direction from the dense bush of the central region you will find great differences in the geography; from the vast, arid savannas of the north to the cooler mountains and forests of the southwest, Uganda offers a staggering range of experiences: volunteers have the opportunity to whitewater raft the Nile, go on safari to see lions, giraffes and elephants, and relax on the sandy shores of the Ssesse Islands in Lake Victoria, the third largest freshwater lake in the world.

The people of Uganda are equally as diverse. They are divided into more than 11 ethnic groups and speak over 40 different languages. What all Ugandans share, luckily, is a penchant for socialization, placing them amongst the happiest, most welcoming people on the planet, and placing Uganda amongst the most idyllic places to volunteer.

Mission Trips Uganda has a specific focus with the rural communities of Buwooya and Kyegegwa-Kyaka where Mission Trips Uganda is planning to build schools, medical clinics Children’s Villages, Mission Community based Churches and training Centers for Children and Youth. When in these Villages, Mission teams and volunteers will be involved teaching at our schools and other local schools in the communities, home visits, Community outreaches, Sports outreaches, contributing to the build and maintenance of the schools, running Sunday school and enjoying fellowship with the children of the villages.

In Uganda our community outreach programs focus on vulnerable, underprivileged children and the youth in Kampala as well as community development and spiritual discipleship in our partner villages, of Buwooya and Kyeggwa-Kyaka.

You will spend most of your time in Buwooya and Kyegegwa; however, you may spend some time in Kampala occasionally. Below are a few examples of the areas you may serve in. If you have a particular area of interest in Buwooya and Kyegegwa, please let the volunteer coordinator know and we can try to use your skills in these areas.

Village Outreaches

Mission Trips Uganda serves the local communities of Buwooya and Kyegegwa in various mission outreach programs. We visit local communities and homes, offer encouragement and prayer, deliver food to the elderly, deliver water, check-in on sponsored children, distribute clothing, and more! You will have the opportunity to go with the team to serve these amazing people.

Mission Sports Outreach

Sports do not build character but they reveal it.” We view sports as a very important strategy of reaching out and discovering oneself. You can take part in various sports with people of all ages. From simple games like ‘Simon Says’ and ‘Duck, Duck, Goose’ with pre-schoolers to basketball with high-scholars to football games during our outreaches and missions in villages. Sports are a universal language and easily open doors for us to share the gospel. Our sports arm is very flexible and we welcome any new games that you may bring

Mission Construction Projects

A brick house, a chicken coop, or a goat shelter can change a family’s life. You’ll have opportunities to participate in construction missions in the villages. Construction projects have included building new homes for the most vulnerable children in our sponsorship program, providing livestock and building shelters for goats, chickens, and cows that will provide families in the village with some income.

There is also always maintenance and cleaning that needs to be done in and around our Mission compound. No skill is required to help keep the dust down and building maintained that the Lord has blessed us with.
